Iran Offers Condolences and Aid to Pakistan Following Deadly Floods

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has conveyed his condolences to Pakistan over the loss of hundreds of lives in devastating floods, affirming Iran’s readiness to provide humanitarian assistance in the aftermath of the natural disaster.

In a message to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday, President Pezeshkian expressed solidarity with the government and people of Pakistan, stressing that Iran stands prepared to deliver aid to help ease the suffering of those affected. He also extended wishes for a swift recovery to the injured.

According to Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority, flash floods triggered by monsoon rains have killed at least 320 people within the past 48 hours. The majority of casualties were reported in the mountainous Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in the country’s northwest. The floods also claimed the lives of five crew members when a rescue helicopter crashed in the Bajaur region. Dozens of homes were destroyed, and authorities have warned that heavy rainfall is expected to continue until August 21.

Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghaddam, also expressed profound sorrow over the human and material losses caused by the disaster. He reiterated Iran’s commitment to stand by Pakistan during this challenging period, offering prayers for the recovery of the injured and emphasising that the Iranian people’s thoughts and sympathies remain with their Pakistani brothers and sisters.
