Iran Open to Dialogue but Warns Against Aggression: Pezeshkian

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: President Masoud Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to dialogue and peaceful engagement during a meeting with Pierre Couchard, the newly appointed Ambassador of France to Iran, on Monday. However, he warned that any repeated acts of aggression would be met with a firm and decisive response.

Receiving the ambassador’s credentials in Tehran, President Pezeshkian emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran does not seek war and remains open to constructive dialogue based on mutual respect and international norms.

“We are ready for dialogue and do not seek conflict,” the President said. “But let it be clear: any repetition of aggression will face our decisive response.”

The President expressed hope for an expansion of bilateral cooperation between Iran and France, stressing that relations must be built on a foundation of respect and mutual understanding. At the same time, he criticized what he described as disruptive policies and false narratives propagated by certain Western countries, particularly concerning Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.

“Iran demands its rights within the framework of international laws and has subjected itself to the most rigorous nuclear monitoring,” he said. “While we remain open to engagement, we will never compromise on our nation’s legitimate rights.”

President Pezeshkian also condemned the Israeli regime’s military actions in Gaza, describing them as “unprecedented crimes” against civilians. He expressed deep concern over the lack of decisive action from European governments in response to the humanitarian crisis.

“What justification can there be for children dying under bombardment or from starvation? Are newborns considered terrorists?” he asked, calling on France to play a more effective role in helping to end the ongoing atrocities in Gaza.

In response, Ambassador Couchard reiterated France’s commitment to maintaining open diplomatic channels and fostering trust between the two nations. “In line with this principle, we kept our embassy in Tehran operational even during the 12-day war period,” he noted.

Ambassador Couchard acknowledged the potential for enhanced cooperation in various sectors and conveyed France’s interest in strengthening bilateral relations. He emphasized the importance of continued dialogue, particularly on contentious issues such as Iran’s nuclear program.

“France firmly believes that dialogue is the only viable path to resolving differences,” he stated. “Diplomacy requires time and patience, but it is the surest way to achieve lasting results.”

The meeting underscored both countries’ recognition of the importance of diplomacy in navigating regional tensions and building a foundation for long-term cooperation.
