Iran Reaffirms Readiness for Dialogue with Europe in Call with Dutch Foreign Minister

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: In a telephone conversation on Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi reaffirmed Iran’s willingness to engage in dialogue with European nations based on mutual respect and shared interests. The conversation took place with Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp, during which both sides discussed bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments.
Araqchi emphasized the Islamic Republic’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties with other nations, stating, “Iran is ready to interact and hold talks with European countries based on mutual respect and common interests.” He highlighted the importance of dialogue in advancing these goals and fostering cooperation.
Veldkamp, in turn, acknowledged the deep-rooted history of Dutch-Iranian relations, underscoring Iran’s significant role in regional developments. He stressed the importance of utilizing all diplomatic channels to enhance understanding and address differences in intergovernmental relations.
The conversation also touched upon the ongoing dispute over the three Iranian islands in the Persian Gulf. Veldkamp clarified the Dutch position, stating, “This is a bilateral matter between Iran and the UAE. The Netherlands, as always, supports bilateral dialogue between Iran and the UAE, guided by international law, to resolve any disputes in this regard.”
Iran has firmly maintained its sovereignty over the three islands—Abu Musa, Greater Tunb, and Lesser Tunb—which are strategically located near the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most vital oil chokepoints. The United Arab Emirates has repeatedly claimed ownership of the islands, prompting ongoing diplomatic discussions.
This conversation reflects both nations’ commitment to addressing pressing regional issues through peaceful dialogue and mutual understanding.
