Iran, Russia Explore Deeper Agricultural Partnership, New Cooperation Mechanisms

Moscow, The Gulf Observer: Iran’s Minister of Agriculture, Gholamreza Nouri Ghezeljeh, held a high-level meeting with Russian Agriculture Minister Oksana Lut in Moscow on Thursday to strengthen bilateral ties and advance agricultural cooperation under the Iran–Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty.
Nouri Ghezeljeh, who arrived in the Russian capital on Wednesday for a two-day visit, discussed with his counterpart a wide range of collaborative initiatives aimed at boosting agricultural trade, addressing technical barriers, and expanding joint research.
According to officials, both sides reviewed strategies to enhance cooperation within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with a particular focus on developing new mechanisms in animal quarantine to remove potential trade obstacles between the two countries.
The ministers also agreed to establish joint research stations with participation from experts of both nations. They further discussed expanding cooperation through multilateral platforms, including BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
Key areas highlighted during the talks included progress in plant breeding and seed production, animal husbandry, veterinary vaccine development, the deployment of modern agricultural technologies, and agricultural education.
At the conclusion of his visit, Nouri Ghezeljeh described the outcomes of the two-day trip and discussions with the Russian side as positive, noting that trade in grains and livestock feed remains a central focus of Iran’s agricultural cooperation agenda.
During his stay in Moscow, the Iranian minister also met with Aidarbek Saparov, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Agriculture. He said the meeting was productive, underscoring that the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad oversees the joint commission for cooperation between Iran and Kazakhstan.
“Developing extraterritorial agriculture for Iranian individuals was a point of interest for the Kazakh side during our discussions,” Nouri Ghezeljeh stated. He added that both sides also reviewed prospects for Kazakh investment in Iran’s southern ports and the potential for exporting products through these facilities.
