Iran-Russia Strategic Partnership a Step Toward Regional Stability: President Pezeshkian

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian underscored the significance of the comprehensive strategic partnership agreement between Iran and Russia, stating it reflects both nations’ refusal to accept the “excessive demands” of adversaries. He emphasized that the agreement lays a foundation for policies that promote regional tranquility, security, development, and economic growth.
President Pezeshkian made these remarks during an interview with Russia’s Channel 1 TV on Friday as part of his official visit to Russia. He highlighted the importance of deepening ties between the two nations through the recently signed agreement, which addresses security, political, and economic cooperation and includes initiatives in railways, roads, trade, energy, and electricity.
Joint Defense and Regional Cooperation
Responding to questions about potential military threats from the United States or Israel, President Pezeshkian asserted that under the partnership agreement, both nations are committed to refusing cooperation with aggressors and ensuring mutual defense. “If either Iran or Russia is attacked, we will not assist the aggressor and will actively prevent such attacks,” he stated.
Condemnation of Zionist Actions
President Pezeshkian condemned what he described as “crimes committed by the Zionist regime in Gaza and Lebanon,” supported by the United States and Europe. He criticized the indiscriminate bombing of civilians, calling it a violation of international law.
“No framework or law permits any country to bomb and massacre innocent people, even during war, yet the Zionists do so without hesitation,” he said.
He further accused Israel and its allies of promoting “Iranophobia” by falsely claiming that Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons. Pezeshkian reiterated Iran’s stance against nuclear armament, asserting, “We have never sought nuclear weapons in the past, and we will not do so in the future.”
Countering Global Narratives
President Pezeshkian emphasized the need for unity among nations that value freedom and independence. He criticized adversaries for using media, banking systems, and international power to distort perceptions of Iran and Russia.
“If like-minded nations unite, we can overcome the totalitarianism and unilateralism imposed by our adversaries,” he said, adding, “We are not seeking war or unrest, but our enemies aim to portray us as the source of insecurity in the region.”
A Vision for Peaceful Progress
Pezeshkian concluded by reiterating Iran’s commitment to peaceful progress and cooperation with Russia to achieve shared goals. The partnership, he noted, reflects the two nations’ dedication to fostering stability, security, and growth across the region.
