Iran Vows to Strengthen Global Ties, Focus on East Asia
Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Foreign Minister of Iran, Abbas Araghchi, has reiterated the Islamic Republic’s commitment to expanding diplomatic ties with countries across the globe, with a particular emphasis on East Asian nations. Araghchi made these remarks during a phone conversation with his Japanese counterpart, Yōko Kamikawa, on Wednesday.
Highlighting Iran’s new foreign policy direction, Araghchi stated, “Iran’s new policy is to expand relations with the world, especially [countries] in East Asia.” This strategic shift underscores Tehran’s intent to strengthen its global partnerships, particularly within the rapidly growing economies of East Asia.
In response, Japan’s Foreign Minister Kamikawa expressed her country’s readiness to deepen bilateral relations with Iran, voicing optimism that mutual cooperation would flourish under the new Iranian administration.
The conversation also covered the escalating tensions in West Asia, where the recent assassination of Hamas Political Leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on July 31 has heightened regional instability. Minister Kamikawa expressed serious concern over what she described as the “dangerous situation” in West Asia, urging all parties involved to exercise restraint.
Addressing these concerns, Araghchi pointed to the provocative actions of the Israeli regime, particularly the assassination of Haniyeh and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s aggressive policies, as the primary factors driving the current tensions. He stressed that, unlike the Zionist regime, the Islamic Republic does not seek to expand conflicts in the region.
The conversation between the two foreign ministers reflects the ongoing diplomatic engagements between Iran and Japan, with both sides expressing a clear interest in enhancing bilateral ties while addressing regional security challenges.
