Iranian and Turkish FMs Discuss Gaza War

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iran’s Acting Foreign Minister, Ali Bagheri Kani, and Turkiye’s Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, held a significant telephone conversation on Sunday to discuss the ongoing Gaza war. Both diplomats emphasized the urgent need for enhanced cooperation among Islamic countries to help bring an end to what they described as Israel’s genocidal war in the Palestinian enclave.

During the call, Bagheri Kani highlighted the severe conditions in Gaza, particularly in the southern city of Rafah, where ongoing Israeli air raids and ground attacks have intensified. He condemned the Israeli military operations and the blockade that prevents humanitarian aid from reaching the affected populations, labeling these actions as crimes against the Palestinians.

“Cooperation and synergy among Islamic countries create an important and effective capacity to support the innocent people of Gaza,” Bagheri Kani stated, urging Islamic nations to spare no effort in backing the Palestinian cause.

Echoing these sentiments, Foreign Minister Fidan stressed the necessity of unified action among Islamic nations in addressing the Palestinian issue. He condemned the Israeli blockade of Gaza, asserting that it aims to annihilate the people there, and called for all available capacities to be utilized to prevent what he termed as genocide and crimes against humanity by the Zionist regime.

Fidan also noted the constructive nature of continued Tehran-Ankara dialogues on Gaza, indicating that such discussions are crucial for formulating effective strategies to support the Palestinian people.

Additionally, the diplomats addressed the tragic martyrdom of Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi and his entourage in a helicopter crash on May 19. Fidan reiterated his condolences over the loss, and Bagheri Kani expressed gratitude for Turkey’s solidarity, including the declaration of public mourning in Turkiye to honor the late Iranian president and his companions.

The conversation between the Iranian and Turkish foreign ministers underscores a shared commitment to addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and highlights the potential for stronger Islamic cooperation in pursuit of peace and justice in the region.
