Iranian Athletes Secure Twelve Medals, Rank 21st at 2024 Paris Olympics
Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iranian athletes have concluded their participation in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France, with a total of twelve medals, achieving a 21st-place finish in the global ranking.
The Iranian contingent amassed a haul of three gold, six silver, and three bronze medals, marking a significant achievement in various disciplines.
In Greco-Roman wrestling, Saeed Esmaeili clinched gold in the 67 kg category, while Mohammad-Hadi Saravi secured another gold in the 97 kg division. Alireza Mohmadi added to the medal count with a silver in the 87 kg category.
In freestyle wrestling, Hassan Yazdani (86 kg), Amir-Hossein Zare (125 kg), and Rahman Amouzad (65 kg) each earned silver medals, contributing to Iran’s strong wrestling tradition.
The Iranian Taekwondo team also shone brightly, with Arian Salimi capturing gold in the +80 kg category. Mehran Barkhordari (-82 kg) and Nahid Kiani (-57 kg) both secured silver medals in their respective weight classes.
Additionally, bronze medals were won by Mobina Nematzadeh (-49 kg) in Taekwondo, Amin Mirzazadeh (130 kg) in Greco-Roman wrestling, and Amir-Ali Azarpira (97 kg) in freestyle wrestling.
Iran’s sports delegation at the 33rd edition of the Olympic Games in Paris featured 40 athletes competing across 14 disciplines. The team’s 21st-place finish marks a significant improvement, rising six places from their performance in the previous Tokyo 2020 Games.
In the Tokyo Olympics held in 2021, the Iranian team secured a total of seven medals: three gold, two silver, and two bronze.
The 33rd Olympic Games in Paris commenced with the opening ceremony on July 26 and officially concluded on August 11.
