US Defense Secretary Orders Deployment of Guided Missile Submarine to Middle East

Washington, D.C., The Gulf Observer: In a significant show of military support, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has directed the deployment of a guided missile submarine to the Middle East, according to a statement released by the Pentagon.

During a phone conversation with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, Secretary Austin reaffirmed the United States’ unwavering commitment to Israel’s defense. The Pentagon’s statement emphasized the U.S. dedication to taking “every possible” measure to safeguard Israel.

In line with this commitment, Secretary Austin has ordered the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN Carrier Strike Group, which is equipped with F-35C fighter jets, to expedite its transit to the Central Command area of responsibility. This move will enhance the military capabilities already present in the region, including those provided by the USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT Carrier Strike Group.

Additionally, Secretary Austin has instructed the USS Georgia (SSGN 729), a guided missile submarine, to deploy to the Central Command region, further reinforcing the U.S. military presence in the area.

The discussion between the defense chiefs also covered Israel’s ongoing operations in Gaza, with a focus on the importance of mitigating civilian harm. They addressed progress towards securing a ceasefire, the release of hostages held in Gaza, and U.S. efforts to deter aggression by Iran, Lebanon’s Hezbollah, and other Iran-aligned groups across the region, according to the Pentagon’s statement.

This strategic deployment underscores the United States’ commitment to supporting its allies and maintaining stability in the Middle East amidst ongoing tensions.
