Israeli Air Strikes Target Beirut's Southern Suburbs

Beirut, The Gulf Observer: Late Saturday, the Israeli army launched a new wave of air strikes in the southern suburbs of Beirut, utilizing fighter jets in a series of bombardments, as reported by media.

The strikes follow an ultimatum from the Israeli military, which stated that it would target buildings in five areas of the southern suburbs allegedly containing “interests of Hezbollah.” This justification has been a recurring theme for the Israeli army in its operations, often leading to strikes on civilian targets.

Official Lebanese media reported that five Israeli air strikes hit southern Beirut and its surrounding areas, with four of these strikes described as “very violent.” Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) confirmed that warplanes carried out multiple attacks, including one on the Chweifat area, prompting emergency services to respond rapidly to the scene.

Witnesses and correspondents from Agence France-Presse (AFP) in Beirut reported hearing numerous explosions and observing thick smoke rising from the targeted areas. Footage captured by AFP showed plumes of smoke and flames erupting from the strikes, highlighting the intensity of the bombardment.

Despite the ongoing air strikes, the NNA stated that operations at Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport continued, with several Middle East Airlines flights landing safely amid the escalating aggression.

This latest round of military action marks a significant escalation in the already tense situation in Lebanon, as concerns grow over the impact on civilian life and infrastructure in the affected regions.
