Jokowi Affirms Indonesia’s Persistent Commitment to Global Issues Since 1955 AAC

Badung, The Gulf Observer: President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) reaffirmed Indonesia’s unwavering commitment to addressing global issues during his opening remarks at the Joint Leaders’ Session of the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF) and the High-Level Forum for Multi-Stakeholder Partnership (HLF MSP) in Badung District, Bali, on Monday.

In his speech, President Jokowi highlighted that Indonesia’s dedication to contributing to global solutions remains as strong as it was when the country hosted the Asian-African Conference (AAC), also known as the Bandung Conference, in 1955. He emphasized Indonesia’s ongoing role in advocating for the interests of Global South nations and bridging efforts towards equality, justice, and solidarity to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The president’s remarks were broadcast via his official YouTube channel and viewed from Jakarta. He expressed confidence that the multinational delegations attending the 2nd IAF and 2024 HLF MSP share a common determination to effect positive change in a world facing significant challenges, including economic downturns, high unemployment and inflation rates, and escalating geopolitical tensions.

Despite this shared spirit, President Jokowi noted a troubling trend of increasing global fragmentation, marked by diminishing international solidarity and a retreat from multilateralism. He pointed out that developing countries are disproportionately affected by these trends, with millions of people in these nations bearing the harshest impacts.

Acknowledging the urgency of the situation, President Jokowi underscored that only six years remain for the international community to achieve the remaining 83 percent of the SDGs by 2030. He called for new directions, strategies, and actions to foster fairer and more inclusive global development for developing countries.
