Jokowi Commends Prabowo for Strengthening Indonesia’s Defense Capabilities

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) expressed his deep gratitude to Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto for his pivotal role in bolstering Indonesia’s defense capabilities through the modernization of defense equipment amid a range of complex challenges. The president made this statement during his speech at the 79th Anniversary of the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) held at the National Monument (Monas) in Jakarta on Saturday.

“I extend my heartfelt appreciation to Minister Prabowo for strengthening Indonesia’s defense capabilities by modernizing defense equipment and promoting the growth of our domestic defense industry,” President Jokowi stated.

He further acknowledged Prabowo’s contributions in enhancing Indonesia’s defense diplomacy on the global stage, alongside his efforts in bolstering national security. Jokowi emphasized that modern challenges, particularly the rapid development of cyber threats fueled by technological advancements, demand increased vigilance and readiness from the nation’s defense forces.

“In addition to conventional conflicts, we are also confronting economic and trade wars. These challenges must be met with preparedness and alertness,” the president remarked, highlighting the intensifying global geopolitical tensions.

President Jokowi called on TNI to adapt to evolving threats by improving their professionalism and capacity. He stressed the importance of collaboration between TNI and various stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies, academic institutions specializing in science and technology, and industry leaders to advance the domestic defense industry.

The commemoration of TNI’s 79th Anniversary commenced at 7:30 a.m. local time, with President Jokowi presiding over the ceremony. The event featured a series of activities, including a military inspection, the presentation of awards to three senior TNI officers, and a special address by the president.

In addition to these formalities, the event showcased TNI’s skills through self-defense demonstrations, equestrian displays, a performance by the Jupiter Aerobatic Team, parachuting exercises, anti-drone demonstrations, and parades featuring troops and defense equipment. Other highlights included a theatrical drone display and flyovers by military aircraft, such as boomerangs and high-speed passes, underscoring TNI’s impressive capabilities.

The ceremony reinforced the government’s commitment to enhancing Indonesia’s defense systems and ensuring that the country is well-prepared to face future challenges in an increasingly complex global environment.
