Jokowi Inaugurates Electric Vehicle Battery Cell Factory in West Java
Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) marked the inauguration of PT Hyundai LG Industry (HLI) Green Power’s electric vehicle battery cell factory in Karawang, West Java, by signing a Hyundai Kona Electric car on Wednesday.
The electric car signed by President Jokowi is the first Kona Electric to be fully manufactured in Indonesia, featuring locally produced batteries.
In his address, President Jokowi commended the two South Korean companies—Hyundai Motor Group and LG Energy Solution—that led the HLI Green Power consortium in establishing the first and largest electric vehicle battery cell factory in Southeast Asia.
He expressed hope that the project, with a total investment of Rp160 trillion (approximately US$9.77 billion), would further strengthen relations between Indonesia and South Korea.
The Kona Electric, capable of covering a distance of over 600 kilometers on a single charge, is sold for approximately Rp500 million (around US$30,542).
