Jokowi to Establish Task Force for Acceleration of Investment in New Capital Nusantara

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: In an effort to expedite investment initiatives in the burgeoning New Capital Nusantara, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is set to establish the Task Force for the Acceleration of Investment in New Capital Nusantara. This task force is tasked with continuing the crucial responsibilities carried out by a similar team established last year.

Agung Wicaksono, Deputy for Funding and Investment at the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN), revealed on Monday, “Last year, we had a similar team called the Task Force for the Acceleration of Land Acquisition and Investment in Nusantara led by Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.”

Wicaksono further elaborated that President Jokowi would issue a decree regarding the establishment of this new task force, mirroring the process undertaken last year, which saw the official conclusion of its tenure in December 2023.

“President Jokowi is expected to issue the decree this month, following extensive coordination with relevant ministers, including Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia,” Wicaksono stated.

Highlighting the achievements of the previous task force under Minister Pandjaitan’s leadership, Wicaksono emphasized its success in identifying crucial issues, collating pertinent data, and expediting necessary documents for land acquisition and investments in the new capital city.

Moreover, he underscored the task force’s accomplishment in bolstering synergy among various ministries and agencies to facilitate business operations in Nusantara effectively.

Building upon the momentum of previous successes, the new task force is expected to inherit and advance the mandates entrusted to its predecessor.

Wicaksono also disclosed an encouraging uptick in investment inflow into Indonesia’s future capital city, with figures rising from Rp45 trillion (US$2.8 billion) in December 2023 to Rp49.6 trillion (US$3 billion) as of April 2024. This increase is attributed to five rounds of groundbreaking projects supported by investments from both domestic and international entities, including those from Singapore, India, and Europe.

Furthermore, Wicaksono unveiled President Jokowi’s upcoming plan to inaugurate an investment-funded educational project in Nusantara this May. The specifics of the groundbreaking ceremony will be tailored to accommodate the president’s schedule.

The establishment of the Task Force for the Acceleration of Investment in New Capital Nusantara underscores Indonesia’s commitment to fostering a conducive environment for robust economic growth and sustainable development in its forthcoming capital city.
