His Majesty King Abdullah speaks during the Christchurch Call to Action to Eliminate Terrorist and Violent Extremist Content Online summit, in New York.

New York, The Gulf Observer: His Majesty King Abdullah participated in the Christchurch Call to Action to Eliminate Terrorist and Violent Extremist Content Online summit, on Tuesday evening in New York, according to a Royal Court statement.

During the summit co-chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron and New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and attended by a number of heads of state and government and representatives of global ICT companies — King Abdullah reiterated Jordan’s commitment to the partnership with the Christchurch Call summit through the Aqaba Process initiative, to counter terrorism and extremist ideologies.

His Majesty highlighted the importance of coordination among all stakeholders to unify efforts to confront extremists’ attempts to exploit social media to promote their radical ideologies and spread hate speech.

The King noted that the fight against extremism also requires working on resolving conflicts that extremists exploit to win over recruits, especially the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, reaffirming the two-state solution as the only way to end the conflict.

Tuesday’s summit was the third held under the Christchurch Call to Action, after the second one was held via teleconference in May 2021.

The first summit was held in Paris in 2019, through an initiative by French President Macron and New Zealand Prime Minister Ardern, following the terrorist attack on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, that year.

Jordan hosted a number of follow-up meetings on the Christchurch Call, under the umbrella of the Aqaba Process, which was launched by His Majesty in 2015 to enhance security and military coordination and cooperation.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, and Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan attended Tuesday’s summit.
