Karachi Mayor Eyes Jakarta’s One-Stop Service Model for Pakistani Cities

Karachi, The Gulf Observer: The Mayor of Karachi, Murtaza Wahab, expressed keen interest in emulating Jakarta’s one-stop integrated public service model, known as the Public Service Mall, in Pakistani cities.

“It is a fantastic initiative that can ease issues faced by the citizens of Jakarta. We have a lot to learn from the experiences here, and we look forward to replicating and enforcing it in our respective cities,” Wahab stated during a broadcast on Sunday.

Wahab, along with the mayors of Sukkur, Turbat, and Kashmir, visited Jakarta’s Public Service Mall in South Jakarta on Tuesday, July 2. The Karachi mayor highlighted that the one-stop public service model would significantly benefit investors by allowing them to complete all necessary investment permits in one centralized location.

“A centralized office where investors can come, share their problems, and get solutions will be the best way to facilitate them,” Wahab added.

The Pakistani mayors are eager to study aspects of Jakarta’s public administration that can be adapted and implemented in their respective cities. Wahab also expressed his intention to foster closer ties between Karachi and Jakarta, aiming to develop sister city relations and enhance people-to-people and business-to-business connections.

Jakarta’s Investment and One-stop Integrated Service Agency Head, Benni Aguscandra, affirmed the agency’s commitment to optimizing service, accountability, and transparency at the Public Service Mall.

“Our principal goal is to show residents that applying for permits on their own is now easy. We will continue to improve public services for our people through collaboration, study, and development,” Aguscandra stated.

The visit and subsequent statements highlight a significant step towards improving public service delivery and fostering international cooperation between the cities.
