Kazakh and Uzbek Presidents Meet in Khiva to Strengthen Strategic Partnership
Khiva, The Gulf Observer: Reports from Akorda confirm that the Head of State of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held an informal meeting in Khiva, Uzbekistan, underscoring their commitment to further enhancing the strategic partnership and alliance between their nations.
The meeting, set against the backdrop of Khiva’s rich Islamic civilization and architectural heritage, carried profound symbolism. President Tokayev reiterated the successful trajectory of bilateral cooperation across various sectors, emphasizing the diligent efforts of both governments in implementing agreements, advancing roadmaps, and fulfilling trade contracts.
Mutual trade between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan has thrived, reaching 4.4 billion US dollars in the previous year alone. Both nations have embarked on joint ventures spanning industries such as industry, energy, transport, logistics, and agriculture. Presently, the portfolio boasts 60 joint projects, with investments exceeding 2.5 billion US dollars and contributing to the creation of over 13 thousand jobs. Notably, progress on the construction of the international center for industrial cooperation remains on track.
President Tokayev underscored the indispensable nature of the Kazakh-Uzbek partnership for ensuring the sustainable development of both countries, lending his support to the adoption of the 2023 Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan Strategic Partnership and Alliance Program.
Discussions during the meeting encompassed a wide array of economic cooperation issues, including bolstering mutual trade, collaborating in energy, transport, water management, and the IT sector. Both leaders placed special emphasis on fostering cultural and humanitarian ties and capitalizing on the unique tourist potential of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
In addition, President Tokayev and President Mirziyoyev deliberated on regional matters, exchanging insights on collaborative efforts within international structures.
The informal meeting between the two Presidents reaffirms the enduring friendship and strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, signaling their shared commitment to advancing mutual interests and regional stability.
