Kazakh President Calls for Development of International Aviation Hub

Astana, The Gulf Observer: President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has emphasized the need to establish an international aviation hub in Kazakhstan during an expanded government meeting held in Astana today. The President outlined the importance of transforming the country’s large airports into globally competitive hubs, calling it a priority task requiring decisive measures.

He stressed the creation of an integrated ecosystem encompassing freight and passenger terminals, logistics centers, and modern services to achieve this goal. Additionally, the President highlighted the necessity of addressing key factors such as aviation fuel price affordability and streamlined customs clearance procedures, both of which significantly impact air conveyance costs.

Addressing High Aviation Fuel Prices

During the meeting, Tokayev identified high aviation fuel prices, particularly at Astana airport, as a critical issue requiring immediate attention. He directed the antimonopoly agency and the government to implement measures to improve the situation within the first half of the year.

Expanding Opportunities in Air Freight

President Tokayev also pointed out that the global air freight market, valued at $140 billion, presents significant opportunities for Kazakhstan. However, he expressed concern that no Kazakhstani company has fully capitalized on this potential and called for increased participation in the lucrative sector.

The meeting marks a pivotal moment in the government’s efforts to boost Kazakhstan’s role in the global aviation industry, enhance infrastructure, and stimulate economic growth.
