Kazakhstan and Belarus Discuss Advancement of Military Cooperation

Astana, The Gulf Observer: Lieutenant General Viktor Khrenin, the Minister of Defense of Belarus, embarked on an official visit to Astana, Kazakhstan as reported by media outlets citing the press service of the Kazakh Defense Ministry.

Upon his arrival, Lieutenant General Khrenin paid homage to the Otan korgaushylar monument by laying flowers, symbolizing respect and remembrance.

The meeting between Lieutenant General Khrenin and his Kazakh counterpart, Defense Minister Ruslan Zhaksylykov, took place at the Defense Ministry. Among the focal points of discussion was Belarus’s recent conclusion of accession procedures to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Minister Zhaksylykov expressed optimism that Belarus’s full-fledged membership in the SCO would invigorate the organization with fresh dynamism.

The bilateral talks delved into avenues for collaboration, including joint training initiatives, coordinated military exercises, and mutual participation in military sports competitions, underscoring both nations’ commitment to enhancing interoperability and strategic cooperation.

Colonel General Zhaksylykov emphasized Kazakhstan’s steadfast commitment to nurturing ties with the Republic of Belarus. He highlighted the active collaboration between the two nations within multilateral frameworks such as the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), and others. Such cooperation, he stressed, not only fosters mutual trust and amicable relations but also bolsters regional security and stability.

As part of his itinerary in Astana, Minister Khrenin visited the esteemed National Defense University of Kazakhstan, further deepening his understanding of Kazakhstan’s military education system and reinforcing academic exchanges between the two countries.

The official visit of Minister Khrenin underscores the enduring bond between Belarus and Kazakhstan, epitomizing their shared commitment to fostering mutual prosperity and safeguarding regional security.
