Kazakhstan and Russia Prepare for Upcoming Intergovernmental Commission Session and Interregional Cooperation Forum

Astana, The Gulf Observer: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy Serik Zhumangarin held a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Kazakhstan, Alexey Borodavkin, to discuss ongoing preparations for the 26th Session of the Intergovernmental Commission on Cooperation, media reported.
The session, scheduled for early November, will precede the 21st Kazakhstan–Russia Interregional Cooperation Forum, which will take place in Uralsk under the theme “Skilled Trades – Drivers of Economic Growth.”
Both events are expected to strengthen bilateral relations and culminate in the signing of a series of agreements covering key areas of cooperation, including trade and economic development, industry, energy, transport, logistics, and other strategic sectors.
During the meeting, particular attention was given to the expansion of mutual trade and efforts to overcome recent fluctuations in trade volumes.
Russia remains one of Kazakhstan’s largest trade and investment partners. In 2024, bilateral trade between the two countries exceeded $27.8 billion, marking a 3% increase compared to the previous year. However, in the first seven months of the current year, trade turnover declined by 7.2%, totaling $14.4 billion.
In light of this decrease, both sides discussed targeted measures to stabilize trade flows and further expand economic cooperation, emphasizing the need for joint initiatives to enhance industrial collaboration and regional connectivity.
The upcoming session and forum are expected to serve as important platforms for deepening economic integration, promoting investment partnerships, and reinforcing the long-standing strategic ties between Kazakhstan and Russia.
