Kazakhstani Boxer Nurbek Oralbay Claims Silver at 2024 Paris Olympics
Paris, The Gulf Observer: Kazakhstani boxer Nurbek Oralbay has secured a silver medal in the men’s 80kg category at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, as reported by NHC.
In a thrilling final bout, Oralbay faced off against Oleksandr Khyzhniak from Ukraine, ultimately losing by a split decision from the judges. Nurbek and his twin brother, Aibek Oralbay, both earned their spots at the Olympics during the World Qualifying Tournament held in Busto Arsizio in March.
Nurbek’s journey to the final was marked by impressive victories. He triumphed over Callum Peters from the Australian team in the preliminaries of the men’s 80kg category. In the Round of 8, he defeated Murad Allakhverdiyev from Azerbaijan with a unanimous decision of 5-0. In the semifinal, he edged out Dominican boxer Cristian Pinales by a split decision (3-2).
While Nurbek celebrated his success, his brother Aibek fell short of reaching the semifinals in the men’s 92kg category after being defeated by Loren Berto Alfonso Dominguez from Azerbaijan.
Kazakhstan’s Olympic team has had a commendable performance at the ongoing 2024 Paris Games, securing seven medals so far. Judoka Yeldos Smetov clinched gold, while artistic gymnast Nariman Kurbanov, Greco-Roman wrestler Demeu Zhadrayev, and boxer Nurbek Oralbay each claimed silver medals. Additionally, air rifle shooters Islam Satpayev and Alexandra Le, along with judoka Gusman Kyrgzybayev and boxer Nazym Kyzaibay, won bronze medals.
