Khalifa University Ranks 6th Globally in Petroleum Engineering in QS Subject Rankings 2026

Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: Khalifa University of Science and Technology has secured the 6th position worldwide in Petroleum Engineering in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, improving from 7th place in 2025 and reinforcing its standing among the world’s leading institutions in energy-focused disciplines.

The university also recorded notable progress across multiple engineering fields. The broader category of Engineering and Technology achieved a score of 131, while Electrical and Electronic Engineering rose to 92nd place. Chemical Engineering saw the most significant advancement, entering the global Top 100 at 94th position, up from the 151–200 range last year.

Overall, Khalifa University now has three subjects ranked in the global Top 100 and three within the Top 150, with a total of 15 subjects ranked across various categories in the 2026 QS subject rankings.

Additional improvements include Mathematics, which maintained its position within the Top 150 at 130th, Mechanical Engineering at 133rd, and Computer Science and Information Systems climbing to 137th globally.

In a notable milestone, the university achieved its first-ever ranking in the broad subject category of Natural Sciences, placing 220th worldwide, marking an expansion of its academic footprint.

Commenting on the achievement, Professor Ebrahim Al Hajri, President of Khalifa University, said the results reflect a strong institutional focus on impactful research aligned with the UAE’s strategic priorities, particularly in the energy sector.

“Our 6th place ranking in Petroleum Engineering and consistent rise across several disciplines demonstrate our excellence in research, academics, and infrastructure,” he said. “These achievements highlight the strength of our faculty and research community in advancing innovation, supporting economic diversification, and developing the scientific and engineering talent required for the future.”

The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 evaluated 6,277 institutions globally, with 1,912 universities ranked across 55 subjects and five broad disciplines, generating more than 21,000 entries.
