King Mohammed VI Launches Major Mental Health Facility Project near Casablanca

Rabat, The Gulf Observer: King Mohammed VI on Wednesday inaugurated the construction of a major regional mental health complex in Sidi Hajjaj Oued Hassar, Mediouna Province, near Casablanca.
The MAD 300 million ($33 million) project, spearheaded by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, is designed to provide comprehensive psychosocial rehabilitation services for individuals with mental health conditions. Spanning eight hectares, the state-of-the-art facility will feature 396 beds, therapeutic workshops, vocational training centers, and a health pool dedicated to psychiatric care and general medicine.
The initiative aims to support patient stabilization and recovery through cognitive remediation, specialized psychotherapies, and occupational activities, ultimately facilitating the social and professional reintegration of patients.
The therapeutic and training pavilion will house group therapy rooms, psychiatry and psychology consultation spaces, sports facilities, and ergotherapy rooms. Vocational training areas will include creative therapy workshops such as painting, music, and theater, as well as a hair salon and library to support diverse therapeutic approaches.
A logistics pavilion will provide essential services including kitchen, dining, and laundry facilities, while additional features will include an educational farm, sports fields, and administrative offices.
Developed through a financial partnership involving several government ministries, regional councils, and the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH), the project is scheduled for completion within 24 months. The facility will be jointly managed by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection and the Ministry of Solidarity, Social Integration, and Family.
This initiative is part of a broader healthcare strategy led by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, which focuses on strengthening Morocco’s healthcare infrastructure, expanding access to services for vulnerable populations, and integrating social support mechanisms into patient care.
Upon completion, the Mediouna mental health complex is expected to become a benchmark facility, delivering integrated and multidisciplinary services to support recovery and reintegration for people with mental health disorders.
