King Mohammed VI Launches National ‘Ramadan 1447’ Solidarity Operation in Sale

Rabat, The Gulf Observer: King Mohammed VI, accompanied by Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, on Saturday launched the national “Ramadan 1447” solidarity operation in the Al Inbiâate district of Sale, near Rabat.
Initiated by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, the large-scale humanitarian campaign will benefit 4,362,732 people across the Kingdom. The operation has been allocated a budget of 305 million Moroccan dirhams (MAD) and will distribute approximately 34,550 tons of essential food products.
The food baskets include flour, milk, rice, oil, sugar, tomato paste, pasta, lentils and tea, targeting the most vulnerable segments of society, particularly widows, elderly persons and people with disabilities. Now in its 28th edition, the initiative reflects Morocco’s continued commitment to social solidarity during the holy month of Ramadan.
In line with royal directives, and for the second consecutive year, the operation relies on the Unified Social Register to identify eligible households living in precarious conditions. This mechanism ensures equitable distribution of food aid across 1,304 municipalities nationwide, enhancing transparency and efficiency.
According to official data, 74 percent of beneficiary households reside in rural areas. Among one million registered heads of household, 432,092 are elderly persons, 211,381 are widows and 88,163 are people with disabilities.
The campaign is organized with financial support from the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs. Thousands of volunteers and social workers have been mobilized at distribution centers nationwide to ensure smooth delivery of assistance to beneficiary families.
Oversight is conducted through local and provincial committees responsible for monitoring supply chains, verifying beneficiary lists and supervising food distribution. Several institutions, including the Royal Armed Forces, Royal Gendarmerie, and various ministries and national agencies, are supporting the implementation of the operation.
The Ministry of Health and Social Protection and the National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA) are overseeing quality control measures to ensure the safety of distributed food products.
During the launch ceremony, the monarch and Crown Prince symbolically handed over food baskets to 10 beneficiary family representatives and posed for a commemorative photograph with volunteers.
Since its inception in 1998, the national food aid operation has mobilized over 2.5 billion dirhams, with the number of beneficiary families increasing from 34,100 in its first year to one million starting in 2023, underscoring the Kingdom’s sustained commitment to social welfare and solidarity.
