Morocco Welcomes US–Iran Ceasefire, Backs Pakistan-Facilitated Peace Talks

Morocco

Rabat, The Gulf Observer: Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has welcomed the recently announced ceasefire between the United States and Iran, expressing hope that the development will pave the way for lasting peace and regional stability.

In an official statement, the ministry voiced its support for the upcoming Pakistan-facilitated negotiations aimed at resolving the Middle East conflict. It expressed optimism that the talks, scheduled to begin in Pakistan on Friday, would yield constructive outcomes and contribute to long-term peace in the region.

“The Kingdom hopes that these negotiations will lead to lasting peace,” the statement noted, adding that the process should reinforce regional stability while safeguarding the supreme interests of Gulf countries affected by the conflict.

Morocco also underscored the importance of ensuring uninterrupted navigation through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international maritime law, given its critical role in global energy supplies.

The United States and Iran have agreed to a two-week ceasefire, with Donald Trump announcing the truce on Thursday. The agreement includes commitments to resume operations in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important maritime trade routes.

The development has been widely welcomed by the international community. China also expressed support, with Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stating during a press briefing that Beijing welcomed the ceasefire agreement.

Additionally, both the European Union and the United Nations have welcomed the truce, emphasizing the need for continued dialogue and diplomatic engagement to achieve a comprehensive and sustainable resolution to the conflict.
