Madayn Launches ‘Green Industrial Cities’ Initiative for National Tree Planting in Oman
Muscat, The Gulf Observer: The Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (Madayn) has inaugurated a green movement in alignment with Oman’s national initiative to plant 10 million wild trees. Led by the Environment Authority (EA) across various governorates, Madayn, in collaboration with EA, commenced the ‘Green Industrial Cities’ initiative by planting Samar, Sidr, Ghaf, and Shua trees in Samail Industrial City.
The initiative aims to gradually extend its mission to all industrial cities under Madayn’s purview. Eng Ibtisam al Shanfari, Environmental Affairs Specialist Manager and Head of Operations Office at Madayn, highlighted the significance of the ‘Green Industrial Cities’ initiative in fostering a healthier living and working environment.
Ibtisam emphasized that the initiative plays a pivotal role in ensuring the sustainable preservation of the environment, combating air, soil, and water pollution, and addressing challenges posed by climate change. The initiative is designed to raise environmental awareness and align with Oman’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, particularly in the industrial sector, through the advancement of clean energy technologies.
Madayn, in collaboration with its partners, actively engages in enhancing awareness among investors in various industrial cities to encourage the adoption of safe, sustainable, and innovative alternative sources. These efforts focus on managing hazardous and non-hazardous waste, proper disposal of liquid waste into marine environments, reducing air and noise pollutant emissions, and ensuring the proper handling and usage of chemicals in storage, transportation, and loading. The ‘Green Industrial Cities’ initiative represents a significant stride towards environmental sustainability and supports Oman’s broader commitment to a greener and more resilient future.
