MAEX to Launch New Wholesale Market in Kalaw Township by Year-End

Shan State (South), The Gulf Observer: Myanmar Agro Exchange Public Company Limited (MAEX) has announced plans to open a new Wholesale Market in Kalaw Township, Shan State (South) by the end of 2025, aiming to strengthen the agricultural supply chain and support local farmers.
The market will serve as a central hub for collecting, storing, and selling agricultural products from Kalaw and Pindaya districts, creating new opportunities for farmers and agri-entrepreneurs in the region. The initiative also aims to link the new facility with the Danyingon Wholesale Market in Yangon, forming a direct distribution corridor between producers in Shan State and markets in the commercial capital.
“We have a plan to establish the Wholesale Market in Shan State (South),” said a MAEX official, encouraging wholesalers and retailers to explore investment opportunities in the new venture. “Like Yangon’s Danyingon Wholesale Market, we aim to open the wholesale market in Kalaw at the end of this year.”
The Kalaw market is expected to enhance the efficiency of agricultural trade by enabling direct connections between producers and buyers, improving income for farmers and reducing dependency on intermediaries.
The project reflects MAEX’s broader mission to modernize Myanmar’s agricultural trading infrastructure, promote market integration, and increase rural economic resilience through investment in wholesale market networks.
