Malayali Association Leads Kuala Belait Beach Clean-Up in Honour of World Environment Day

Kuala Belait, The Gulf Observer: Over 50 community members gathered for a beach clean-up organised by the Malayali Association (MA) in celebration of World Environment Day, successfully collecting more than 74 bags of debris, including plastic bottles and non-biodegradable waste from Kuala Belait beach.
The initiative aimed to raise awareness about marine pollution and promote sustainable environmental practices among residents. The collected waste was later sorted for recycling and responsible disposal, reinforcing the community’s commitment to sustainability.
The event was inaugurated by Assistant Belait District Officer Muhammad Faiq bin Haji Rani, who praised the collective spirit of the participants and stressed the importance of continued community involvement in addressing environmental issues.
“Today’s effort is a testament to what we can achieve when we come together with a common purpose,” he remarked. “Every piece of trash removed from our beach is a step towards a healthier, cleaner environment for all.”
President of the Malayali Association Sajeev Kumar echoed the sentiment, stating, “We are committed to sustainable practices that protect our environment and ensure the well-being of future generations.”
To mark the occasion, a tree planting ceremony was held before volunteers set out to clean the shoreline, reinforcing the association’s holistic approach to environmental stewardship.
The Malayali Association organises a variety of environmental activities annually, including beach clean-ups, tree planting, and awareness programmes for both the wider community and children—fostering a culture of environmental responsibility at all levels.
