Malaysia Applauds Qatari Emir’s Role in Iran-Israel-US Ceasefire, Reaffirms Support for Regional Peace

Kuala Lumpur, The Gulf Observer: Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has praised the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, for his successful initiative in brokering a ceasefire between Iran, Israel, and the United States, describing it as a critical diplomatic breakthrough that has helped defuse escalating tensions in the Middle East.
In a statement posted on Facebook on Tuesday, Prime Minister Anwar revealed that he held a phone conversation with the Qatari Emir earlier in the day, during which he conveyed Malaysia’s appreciation for Qatar’s vital and courageous role in securing the agreement.
“This is an important step that successfully defused tensions and prevented a larger confrontation and conflict in the Middle East,” said Anwar.
The Prime Minister emphasized that despite Qatar’s challenging position, being drawn into a highly volatile regional context, Emir Sheikh Tamim chose to prioritize long-term regional peace. Anwar commended his Qatari counterpart’s steadfastness and sincerity, particularly in supporting broader peace efforts, including Qatar’s ongoing mediation in ceasefire negotiations between Palestine and Israel.
According to Anwar, Sheikh Tamim also briefed him on his recent communication with U.S. President Donald Trump, during which the Qatari leader urged Washington to intensify efforts to end the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and to work toward a just and lasting peace.
“He used the opportunity to urge the United States to focus on efforts towards stopping the genocide in Gaza and establishing a just and lasting peace,” Anwar stated.
Reaffirming Malaysia’s long-standing position, the Prime Minister said that the country would continue to support all peace initiatives grounded in the principles of justice, sovereignty, and mutual respect.
“Honest negotiations that respect the rights of every nation are an absolute prerequisite for building lasting peace in the region and throughout the world,” he concluded.
