Kuala Lumpur, The Gulf Observer: Malaysia’s exports of halal products and services are projected to reach RM80 billion by 2030, supported by robust national policies and strategic plans, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced on Saturday.

Delivering his keynote address at the launch of the Global Halal Summit (GHaS) 2025 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec), Anwar said the Halal Industry Master Plan 2030 and the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 provide a clear roadmap to position Malaysia as the world’s leading halal hub.

He noted that under the 13th Malaysia Plan, significant allocations have been made to further strengthen the halal sector. “In return, the sector is projected to contribute RM231 billion, or 10.8 percent, to the national gross domestic product (GDP) by 2030, driven by strong demand in food, finance, and tourism,” Anwar said.

The Prime Minister highlighted that the global halal market, valued at RM16.02 trillion in 2024, is expected to expand to RM22.88 trillion by 2030. In 2024, Malaysia’s halal exports stood at RM61.79 billion. He urged local companies to accelerate digitalisation to boost efficiency, expand market reach, and tap into opportunities in the digital economy and cross-border trade.

Anwar also called on the international community and business enterprises to view halal as a comprehensive system of values. “We must empower the public to be ethical consumers, support halal entrepreneurs in penetrating global markets, and build a new generation of halal professionals with expertise not only in religious knowledge but also in food science, technology, engineering, and law,” he stressed.

He reiterated that Malaysia would continue to promote halal as a universal economic model and integrate it into bilateral discussions with world leaders. “More non-Muslim countries will recognise the necessity of halal-certified products beyond food and hospitality, encompassing Islamic finance, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and healthcare. Halal is more than just a label—it is an international symbol of trust,” he emphasized.

Also present at the summit were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, Matrade chairman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, and Matrade chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz.
