Yokohama, The Gulf Observer: Malaysian men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani achieved their biggest success on the Badminton World Federation (BWF) tour by winning the Japan Open title on Sunday.

Sze Fei and Izzuddin delivered a stunning performance, defeating the reigning world champions Kang Min Hyuk and Seo Seung-jae of South Korea with a score of 21-19, 21-15 in the final. This victory marks the pair’s first Super 750 crown on the BWF tour.

This triumph comes as a significant milestone for the Malaysian duo, who are set to become an independent pair starting September 1. Earlier this year, Sze Fei and Izzuddin reached the final of the Asian Championships in Ningbo, where they were defeated by the world No. 1 pair Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang of China.

Prior to their Japan Open victory, Sze Fei and Izzuddin had won the 2022 German Open and the 2023 US Open, both of which were Super 300 events. Their latest achievement is especially noteworthy as it marks the first time a Malaysian pair has won the men’s doubles title at the Japan Open since Chan Chong Ming and Chew Choon Eng did so in 2002.

This victory not only cements Sze Fei and Izzuddin’s status as a formidable force in international badminton but also adds to Malaysia’s proud legacy in the sport.
