Mass Shooting in Fordyce, Arkansas, 3 Dead, 10 Injured
Fordyce, The Gulf Observer: In a tragic incident on Friday, a mass shooting outside a grocery store in Fordyce resulted in the deaths of three individuals and left ten others injured, according to state police and media reports.
Among the injured were two law enforcement officers. During an afternoon press conference, state police officials detailed that the injuries of the civilians varied, with some sustaining non-life-threatening wounds while others were critically injured. The suspected shooter was critically injured after being shot by police and is now in custody.
The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has dispatched special agents from its New Orleans field office to assist with the response and ongoing investigation.
Fordyce, a city with a population of approximately 3,400, is situated about 70 miles south of Little Rock, the capital of Arkansas.
Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders addressed the incident on social media, stating, “I have been briefed on the tragic shooting in Fordyce, and I’m in constant contact with State Police at the scene. I am thankful to law enforcement and first responders for their quick and heroic action to save lives.”
This incident adds to the growing number of mass shootings in the United States this year. According to the Gun Violence Archive, there have been 234 mass shootings in the country in 2024, each resulting in at least four casualties.
The community of Fordyce is now grappling with the aftermath of this devastating event as authorities continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
