Mehriban Aliyeva Visits Great Hall of the People in Beijing

Beijing, The Gulf Observer: First Lady of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva, accompanied by her daughter Leyla Aliyeva and other family members, visited the Great Hall of the People in Beijing during their official trip to China.

The Great Hall of the People, a landmark of political and cultural significance in China, is situated on the western edge of Tiananmen Square in the capital’s historic heart. It serves as the venue for China’s most prominent state functions, including plenary sessions of the National People’s Congress, Communist Party congresses, and welcoming ceremonies for foreign dignitaries.

The visit provided the Azerbaijani delegation an opportunity to explore the architectural and historical importance of the building, which was inaugurated in 1959 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Designed as a symbol of national unity, the Great Hall features the Grand Auditorium, State Banquet Hall, and reception rooms, as well as halls representing each province and region of the country.

The First Lady’s visit highlights the cultural diplomacy accompanying the state visit of President Ilham Aliyev and reflects the growing ties between Azerbaijan and China.

The Great Hall of the People is periodically open to the public when not in use for official functions, offering a rare glimpse into the heart of China’s state apparatus.
