Mejlis of Turkmenistan and Parliament of Georgia Sign Cooperation Agreement During Official Visit to Tbilisi

Tbilisi, The Gulf Observer: A two-day official visit of the Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan commenced in Georgia on 23 February 2026. On the same day, a high-level meeting was held at the Parliament of Georgia between the legislative representatives of Turkmenistan and Georgia, led by Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan D. Gulmanova and Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia Sh. Papuashvili.

During the meeting, both sides underscored that Turkmen-Georgian cooperation continues to develop on a regular and systematic basis, covering a broad spectrum of areas of mutual interest. In this context, inter-parliamentary engagement was highlighted as a key instrument for strengthening mutual understanding and coordinating positions on important issues of the bilateral agenda.

The parties emphasized the dynamic nature of their established inter-parliamentary relations, noting the significant role of high-level parliamentary visits and the annual meetings of inter-parliamentary friendship groups. These mechanisms were described as vital components of parliamentary diplomacy, which serves as an important tool for enhancing interstate relations and promoting both bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

Discussions also focused on legislative initiatives and prospects for joint projects. Particular attention was given to improving the activities of inter-parliamentary friendship groups, promoting the exchange of experience, enhancing interaction between relevant parliamentary committees, and creating favorable conditions for regular and constructive dialogue.

Special emphasis was placed on strengthening contacts between the Group of Young Parliamentarians of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and their counterparts in the Parliament of Georgia, as well as fostering cooperation among women parliamentarians. The two sides also reaffirmed their readiness to continue mutual support for initiatives within the framework of international organizations.

At the conclusion of the negotiations, a Cooperation Agreement was signed between the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and the Parliament of Georgia.

Both parties expressed confidence that the signed document would provide a solid foundation for further expanding inter-parliamentary cooperation and deepening bilateral relations between Turkmenistan and Georgia.
