Memorial Service Held for Victims of Dingri Earthquake in Xizang

Lhasa, The Gulf Observer: A solemn memorial service was held Monday in Chamco Township, the hardest-hit area, to honor the victims of the devastating 6.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Dingri County in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region last week.
At 9:30 a.m., hundreds of attendees, including government officials, rescue workers, and local residents, gathered to pay their respects. The ceremony featured a poignant moment of silence, with participants removing their hats and standing still for three minutes in memory of the 126 lives lost.
The earthquake, which struck on January 7, caused widespread devastation in Dingri, home to the northern base camp of Mount Qomolangma, the world’s highest peak. Rescue and recovery operations have been ongoing, with authorities prioritizing support for affected families and rebuilding efforts.
The memorial service highlighted the resilience of the local community and the solidarity of those working to overcome the tragedy.
