Baku, The Gulf Observer: President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Chairman of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser convened a meeting in Baku to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation, as reported by New Hub Consultants.

During the talks, President Mirziyoyev praised the strong and dynamic development of the partnership between Uzbekistan and the IsDB. He highlighted the success of the Arab Coordination Group meeting led by the Bank in Tashkent earlier this year, which saw the participation of numerous prominent financial institutions from the Islamic world.

The scope of Uzbekistan’s collaboration with the Bank has expanded, with a project portfolio exceeding $4 billion, of which 40% is allocated to the private sector. The partners have also made consistent progress in building the capital of the jointly established Economic Empowerment Fund for Uzbekistan.

Discussions emphasized enhancing collaboration on new projects and initiatives in key areas such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, ecology, entrepreneurship, and mobilizing private investment. Both sides expressed interest in greater involvement of IsDB structures in project activities.

The meeting also explored opportunities for the Bank’s role in financing large-scale investment projects within Uzbekistan’s industrial and extractive sectors, demonstrating a commitment to expanding strategic economic cooperation.
