Morocco Highlights Africa’s Energy Future at UNGA Forum

New York, The Gulf Observer: At the Africa Energy Forum in New York, held on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly, Morocco’s ambassador to the United States, Youssef Amrani, outlined his country’s vision for Africa’s energy future, emphasizing regional integration, solidarity, and shared prosperity.
Amrani said Morocco’s “determined and active commitment” to the continent’s energy agenda reflects the broader vision of King Mohammed VI. He stressed that Africa’s energy initiatives should be guided by collective responsibility rather than narrow national interests.
Citing the Africa-Atlantic gas pipeline as a flagship example, the ambassador explained that the Morocco-Nigeria initiative represents the ambition to “build a more united, stronger, and more integrated Africa.” He described the project as more than a transportation network, but as “transmitting energy in the noblest sense – the energy that fuels growth, connects people, and builds bridges between continents.”
Amrani characterized the pipeline as a symbol of South-South cooperation based on trust and solidarity, noting that technical and environmental studies have been completed. A specialized entity, he added, will soon be established to oversee its implementation.
He further highlighted the project’s strategic importance, pointing out that “Morocco, through its position and commitment, is asserting itself as a natural gateway to the Atlantic.” He portrayed Morocco as a forward-looking energy corridor linking Africa with Europe, underpinned by structural projects that combine political vision, innovation, and cooperation.
Turning to Africa’s broader energy outlook, Amrani underlined that the continent’s future depends on transforming its natural resources into an engine of inclusive development. “When energy is conceived in an inclusive logic, it becomes the foundation of positive change,” he said. “It drives industry, stimulates innovation, creates jobs, and above all, transforms the lives of millions of Africans.”
