Marrakech, The Gulf Observer: As part of Morocco’s ongoing efforts to improve healthcare accessibility and equity, Minister of Health and Social Protection Amine Tahraoui on Friday inaugurated 200 newly rehabilitated and equipped health facilities in both rural and urban areas across eight regions of the Kingdom. The launch ceremony was held at the “Al Qods” health center in Errachidia, in celebration of the 26th anniversary of Throne Day.

The inauguration was attended by the Wali of the Drâa-Tafilalet region and Governor of Errachidia Province, Essaid Zniber, while regional health directors participated via videoconference, highlighting the national scope of the initiative.

The 200 facilities are strategically distributed across the following regions: 40 in Drâa-Tafilalet, 39 in Fès-Meknès, 5 in Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceïma, 10 in Béni Mellal-Khénifra, 24 in Marrakech-Safi, 21 in Souss-Massa, 31 in l’Oriental, and 30 in Guelmim-Oued Noun.

In a press statement, Minister Tahraoui explained that this launch is part of a broader national program to rehabilitate and equip 1,400 health centers across the country. The program aims to reinforce the healthcare system, bring essential medical services closer to the population, and ensure equitable access to healthcare for all Moroccan citizens, particularly in underserved and remote areas.

These newly operational health centers will provide a comprehensive range of services, including general and specialized medical consultations, chronic disease management, maternal and child health care, school health services, nursing care, public health education, and epidemiological surveillance.

To ensure high-quality care, the ministry has deployed specialized medical personnel and equipped the facilities with advanced biomedical technology and modern infrastructure tailored to the needs of the local communities.

Earlier this week, Minister Tahraoui presented before the House of Representatives a national hospital rehabilitation program covering 83 hospitals, with a total planned capacity of 8,700 beds. Of these, 1,729 beds are scheduled to become operational in 2025, with an additional 2,056 beds expected by 2028.

Focusing on rural healthcare, the Minister noted that 950 rural health centers have already been rehabilitated, with the remainder set for completion by the end of 2025. He emphasized that rural areas account for 71 per cent of Morocco’s national health infrastructure, encompassing 2,186 healthcare establishments — including 433 second-level centers equipped with maternity units or emergency services.

This initiative is a significant step toward strengthening Morocco’s health system under the framework of national social protection reforms and aligns with the Kingdom’s long-term development goals.
