Morocco, Portugal Strengthen Judicial Cooperation to Enhance Legal Security
Rabat, The Gulf Observer: Morocco and Portugal have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening judicial cooperation and strengthening legal security following high-level talks held in Rabat between Abdellatif Ouahbi and his Portuguese counterpart Rita Alarcão Júdice during the latter’s official working visit.
The meeting focused on advancing legal and judicial cooperation mechanisms, with both sides exploring avenues to enhance collaboration across civil and criminal justice systems, cross-border case management, and frameworks for mutual legal assistance.
During the discussions, the ministers agreed to sustain and expand existing cooperation frameworks while launching new joint initiatives. These include regular exchanges between officials and experts, reciprocal institutional visits, the development of joint action plans, and the establishment of direct communication channels between judicial authorities in both countries.
In a statement to the Moroccan Press Agency (MAP), Minister Ouahbi emphasized that the talks reflect a shared determination to strengthen bilateral judicial ties. He underscored that enhanced coordination and the exchange of expertise are vital in addressing increasingly complex cross-border crime challenges. He further noted that reinforcing legal and judicial security is essential to building public trust in justice systems and safeguarding rights and freedoms.
Ouahbi also highlighted Morocco’s ongoing efforts to modernize its judicial system through digital transformation, streamlined legal procedures, improved international cooperation, and the effective enforcement of judicial decisions. These reforms, he said, aim to boost judicial efficiency and improve service delivery for citizens.
For her part, Minister Alarcão Júdice described the Morocco-Portugal partnership as a strong example of constructive cooperation built on mutual trust and knowledge-sharing. She stressed that closer coordination between judicial institutions enhances both countries’ ability to address contemporary legal challenges.
The Portuguese minister reaffirmed her country’s commitment to further strengthening cooperation through the exchange of best practices and collaboration in key areas such as combating organized crime, modernizing judicial administration, advancing professional training, and promoting the use of digital tools in judicial management.
The meeting underscored both nations’ resolve to expand judicial collaboration and reinforce legal security as a cornerstone for justice, transparency, and mutual trust.
