Morocco Signs Founding Charter of US-Led Board of Peace at Davos WEF

Davos

Davos, The Gulf Observer: Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, represented the Kingdom at the signing ceremony of the Board of Peace, a new international initiative launched by US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland.

The US-led Board of Peace, which requires a $1 billion fee for permanent membership, aims to contribute to the resolution of international conflicts. Morocco is among the founding members of the newly established body, following King Mohammed VI’s acceptance of President Trump’s invitation to join the initiative.

During the ceremony, representatives of member states signed the founding charter alongside President Trump. The signing process began with Bahrain’s Sheikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa and Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita. Following the ceremony, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that the charter had entered into force, formally establishing the Board of Peace as an international organization.

President Trump expressed his intention for the Board to work in coordination with the United Nations to address global conflicts, stating that the council would initially focus on supporting a truce in Gaza while also seeking to address other protracted conflicts worldwide.

While around 35 countries have announced their intention to join the Board, reports indicate that several permanent members of the UN Security Council have not yet committed. France declined the invitation, while the United Kingdom stated it would not join at this stage. Russia has said it is reviewing the US proposal.

In a statement earlier this week, Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said President Trump’s invitation reflected international recognition of King Mohammed VI’s leadership and Morocco’s longstanding role as a constructive actor in peace efforts, particularly in the Middle East. The ministry emphasized that the initiative aligns with Morocco’s commitment to promoting peace through dialogue, effective action, and practical cooperation.

Morocco has consistently advocated for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, supporting the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. The Kingdom has also repeatedly called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and increased humanitarian access.

In addition to diplomatic efforts, Morocco has provided humanitarian assistance to Gaza, including the dispatch of medical and relief supplies, in line with directives issued by King Mohammed VI. The Kingdom continues to stress the importance of dialogue and the rejection of external interference as key principles for resolving regional and international conflicts.
