Ankara, The Gulf Observer: Mount Agri, Türkiye’s tallest peak at 5,137 metres, has introduced a thrilling new route for climbers with the discovery of meteor craters nestled at 3,500 metres on its eastern slopes. Located on the northern face of Mount Agri in the Korhan region, these twin meteor craters have swiftly become a focal point for climbers eager to conquer new heights. The ascent to these craters, spanning an arduous 8-9 hour journey from the Korhan Plateau at 2,200 metres, offers enthusiasts like Ali Ozturk a chance to experience unparalleled natural beauty and adventure.
“We started our climb from the Korhan Plateau at dawn, and by midday, we had reached the meteor craters,” shared Ali Ozturk, recounting his recent expedition with Anadolu Agency. “Visiting these craters on the northeastern slope of Mount Agri is a testament to the mountain’s allure, with its uncharted territories awaiting exploration by scientists and climbers alike.”
