Bagan, The Gulf Observer: The Bagan Ancient Cultural Heritage Zone is anticipating a significant rise in tourism during the upcoming five-day holiday from 12 to 16 March, as locals prepare to welcome an influx of visitors.

According to officials from the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism (Bagan), the area experienced high foot traffic during the Shwesettaw pagoda festival last year, with many visitors traveling between Bagan, Shwesettaw, and Mount Popa. This year, the extended holiday period offers travelers ample time to explore both historical sites and cultural attractions.

The ancient cultural zone, a favorite among foreign tourists, is renowned for its mural paintings and architectural marvels. Key attractions include Shwezigon, Ngatpyit Hill, Tuyin Hill, Alotawpyae, Htilominlo, Ananda, Thatbyinnyu, Gadawpalin, Buu, Mya Zedi, Manuha, Lawka Nanda, Dhammayangyi, Dhamma Rasika, Sulamani, Shwesandaw, and Pyathetgyi.

U Tin Hla Oo, Secretary of the Pagoda Board of Trustees of Htilominlo, remarked, “The situation in Bagan is peaceful and it’s the perfect time to visit. There is a saying that a Myanmar national must visit Bagan at least once. The locals are enthusiastic about welcoming tourists and expect large crowds during the holiday period.”

The Bagan Ancient Cultural Heritage Zone, spanning 14,295 square miles, houses 3,822 pagodas, temples, and caves, along with 15 additional pagodas in the Tantkyi Hill area, bringing the total to 3,837 pagodas.
