Myanmar Ministers Participate in ASEAN Power Grid Financing Dialogue

Yangon, The Gulf Observer: Myanmar’s Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, Dr. Wah Wah Maung, and Union Minister for Energy, U Ko Ko Lwin, took part in the Ministerial Interface Meeting on Financial Mechanisms for the ASEAN Power Grid (APG), held virtually yesterday and hosted by Malaysia.
Speaking at the event, Union Minister U Ko Ko Lwin emphasized the importance of continued support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the World Bank to facilitate the participation of Laos and Thailand in the cross-border electricity project. This initiative, under the ASEAN Power Grid Financing Facility (APGF), aims to meet Myanmar’s electricity needs and is slated for implementation before 2045.
He further noted that Myanmar welcomes investments in sustainable development within the regional economic and energy sectors, leveraging the nation’s strategic geographical location and opportunities. He reaffirmed Myanmar’s commitment to collaborating with ASEAN member states to strengthen energy security and advance energy sector development both domestically and across the region.
Union Minister Dr. Wah Wah Maung stressed the need for an effective and inclusive approach to enhancing energy security, accessibility, and resilience. Highlighting Myanmar’s abundant energy resources, she reiterated the country’s openness to energy sector investments from ASEAN partners.
The meeting served as a strategic policy dialogue to formulate strategies for the APGF and to coordinate financial assistance from the ADB and World Bank for the ASEAN Power Grid, a flagship regional integration initiative aimed at bolstering energy connectivity and cooperation across Southeast Asia.
