Myanmar’s Senior General Min Aung Hlaing Explores Space Cooperation with Russia’s Roscosmos

Samara, The Gulf Observer: Myanmar’s Chairman of the State Administration Council and Prime Minister, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, continued his official visit to Russia, focusing on space cooperation and bilateral relations.

Departing from Minsk International Airport in Belarus, the Senior General was seen off by Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Maxim Ryzhenkov, Myanmar Consul-General U Moe Kyaw Thu, and other officials. Before boarding his flight, he saluted the Guard of Honour.

Upon arrival at Kurumoch International Airport in Samara City, Russian Federation, the Myanmar goodwill delegation was warmly received by Samara City Government Head Mr. AV Fedorishchev, the Russian Ambassador to Myanmar, and senior officials.

At the JSC Progress Factory of the State Space Corporation “Roscosmos,” Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and his entourage were welcomed by Director-General Mr. Dmitry Bakanov. In a meeting held at the facility, both sides discussed strengthening cooperation in the peaceful use of space technology. Key topics included:

  • Sending more Myanmar students to Russia for specialized studies in satellite launching and space technology.
  • Enhancing collaboration between Myanmar and Samara City in technological and scientific fields.
  • Strengthening Myanmar-Russia friendly relations through joint projects.

Roscosmos officials provided a detailed briefing on their satellite programs, including their role in disaster monitoring, agricultural research, environmental conservation, and satellite communications. The discussions also covered rocket assembly, space station construction, and Russian assistance in upgrading Myanmar’s planetarium.

Following the meeting, the Senior General and his delegation toured the satellite assembly and rocket production facilities at JSC Progress Factory. Discussions continued as officials explained the advanced manufacturing processes.

In honor of the visit, Director-General Dmitry Bakanov hosted a luncheon for the Myanmar delegation. After the meal, the Senior General and the Director-General exchanged commemorative gifts as a symbol of strengthened bilateral ties.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe and his delegation held separate talks with the Deputy Head of the Samara Regional Government, the Regional Education Minister, and heads of industrial economic zones. Discussions focused on cooperation in:

  • Industrial sector development
  • Fertilizer production
  • Energy sector collaboration
  • Pharmaceutical advancements
  • Education exchange programs between Myanmar and the Samara and Tolyatti Regions of Russia.

After the diplomatic engagements, SAC Information Team Leader Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun addressed media queries regarding the goodwill visit.

Later in the evening, the Myanmar delegation departed from Kurumoch International Airport in Samara City and arrived at Tolmachevo Airport in Novosibirsk City. They were received by the Head of the Novosibirsk Government, the Myanmar Consul-General, and other officials.

This visit marks another step in Myanmar’s pursuit of international scientific and industrial collaboration, reinforcing strategic ties with Russia in space technology and other key sectors.
