Nearly 1,000 Candidates to Contest in Azerbaijan's Snap Parliamentary Elections

Baku, The Gulf Observer: A total of 991 candidates are set to compete for seats in Azerbaijan’s upcoming snap parliamentary elections, Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Rovzat Gasimov announced on Saturday, as reported by NHC.

Gasimov noted that the election process is nearing completion, with final preparations underway. “Approximately 6,516,567 ballots have been printed as per the commission’s decision, featuring the names of 991 candidates,” he stated.

The CEC official also emphasized that the candidates’ campaign activities have proceeded smoothly and without incident so far, signaling a well-organized electoral process.

The snap elections were called following a decree by President Ilham Aliyev, who signed an order on June 28 dissolving the sixth convocation Milli Majlis, the National Assembly of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The elections are scheduled to take place on September 1, marking a significant political event in the country’s democratic process.
