Ngwetaung Beach Records Surge in Domestic Visitors as Authorities Enhance Safety and Leisure Services

Ngaputaw, The Gulf Observer: Ngwetaung Beach in Hainggyikyun, Ngaputaw Township, has witnessed a notable increase in domestic visitor arrivals, with 29,755 travellers recorded in January 2026, according to Daw Ni Ni Mar, an executive of the Myanmar Tourism Entrepreneurs Association (Ngwetaung Beach).
The beach, located near the revered Myat Mawtinsun Pagoda, remains a popular year-round destination for local tourists, particularly those from Yangon Region and the Nay Pyi Taw Council Area.
Providing a comparison of recent figures, Daw Ni Ni Mar stated that 22,745 domestic travellers visited the beach in December 2025. The number rose significantly in January 2026, reflecting a steady upward trend in visitor arrivals. She attributed the increase partly to extended public holidays last month and anticipated a further surge in visitors with the upcoming Mawtinsun Pagoda Festival, which is expected to draw large numbers of pilgrims to the area.
“In December 2025, 22,745 domestic travellers visited Ngwetaung Beach. In January 2026, the number rose to 29,755. Visitor arrivals are steadily increasing, and the beach continues to welcome travellers throughout the year. Last month, there were many travellers during the long holidays. The Mawtinsun Pagoda Festival will start soon, so pilgrims will also come here, leading to more visitors to the beach,” she said.
To ensure that visitors enjoy safe and peaceful trips, local authorities and tourism stakeholders have arranged a range of leisure services and safety measures. Recreational activities include bicycle rentals, motorboat rides, and horse riding. Additionally, stalls offering local cuisine, consumer goods, and souvenirs have been set up to enhance the overall visitor experience.
With rising domestic tourism and the forthcoming religious festival, Ngwetaung Beach is expected to continue attracting increasing numbers of travellers in the coming months.
