Rabat, The Gulf Observer: A high-level military delegation from Niger has arrived in Morocco for a week-long visit aimed at enhancing defense cooperation and strengthening bilateral relations.

Army Corps General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and Commander of the South Zone, received the delegation led by Division General Moussa Salaou Barmou of Niger. The meeting was held under the instructions of King Mohammed VI, according to a statement from the Moroccan Armed Forces.

During the discussions, both sides commended the “exceptional quality” of relations between the two armies, emphasizing the fraternal ties and mutual respect that underpin their cooperation. The talks also highlighted collaboration in areas such as operational training, military health, and exchanges of expertise and visits.

The visit comes as Sahel countries, including Niger, view Morocco as a vital partner in addressing pressing security and sovereignty challenges. Morocco has in recent years intensified efforts to support regional stability and peacekeeping initiatives across Africa.

The Sahel remains a key concern for the international community due to ongoing conflicts, terrorism, and organized crime linked to human and drug trafficking. With one of the most capable and modernized militaries in the region, Morocco continues to invest in upgrading its defense capabilities.

According to the Global Firepower 2025 report, Morocco ranks 59th out of 145 countries in global military strength. The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) also reported a 2.6% increase in Morocco’s military spending in 2024.
