Oman Chairs United Nations Environment Assembly Executive Office Meeting

Muscat, The Gulf Observer: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Environment Authority, chaired the meeting of the Executive Office of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) Friday. This meeting, marking the 7th session of the UNEA’s executive bureau, was conducted via video conferencing.
The primary objective of the meeting was to familiarize members of the Executive Office with their roles and responsibilities for the 7th session of the UNEA. Key discussions included the adoption of a roadmap for the Executive Office’s tasks and the methodology for preparing topics for the upcoming Assembly session. Additionally, members reviewed a draft “Subject Assessment” document designed to leverage insights from the previous session.
Dr. Abdullah Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority, emphasized the importance of global unity in addressing environmental crises that impact various regions worldwide. He highlighted the necessity of collective decision-making to tackle these urgent issues.
Anger Anderson, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme, echoed the significance of the current session. She spoke on the crucial role of the UNEA and its projects, stressing the importance of the Assembly’s initiatives.
The meeting concluded with the approval of the proposed agenda and a review of the UNEA Executive Office’s program of activities during Oman’s presidency for the 2024-2025 session.
