Muscat, The Gulf Observer: The Oman Automobile Association (OAA) proudly hosts the eagerly anticipated sixth edition of the Oman International Drift Championship, commencing today, February 8, and extending through February 23. Set against the backdrop of the Muscat Drift Arena, the championship brings together a diverse lineup of 180 drivers representing 19 countries, vying for a total prize pool of €109,500.
The competition is structured over three thrilling rounds, with the first round scheduled for February 8-9, followed by the second on February 15-16, and the grand finale on February 22-23. The championship has garnered global appeal, drawing participants from nations including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Jordan, Lebanon, Lithuania, Latvia, Ukraine, Britain, Ireland, Russia, and the USA.
Ali al Balushi, a renowned drifter and OAA member, emphasized the championship’s growing reputation as a premier drifting contest, attracting enthusiasts not only from Oman but also from neighboring countries and beyond. He highlighted the intense competition anticipated among the world’s elite drift racers, recalling the excitement of last year’s showdown when British contender Steve Bugsy halted Irish champion James Dean’s three-year winning streak.
Winners will be crowned at the conclusion of each round, and the overall champion will be the driver accumulating the most points throughout the event. A distinguished panel of referees will adjudicate the competition, ensuring fairness and accuracy in judging the drifting prowess on display.
For fans unable to witness the action live at the Muscat Drift Arena, OAA has devised a comprehensive digital strategy, broadcasting the event in Arabic, English, and Russian on its YouTube and Facebook channels. This initiative aims to share the excitement of drifting with enthusiasts worldwide, extending the championship’s reach beyond the arena.
Highlighting Oman’s strong presence in the championship, Ali al Balushi expressed pride in the historical achievements of Omani racers, who have consistently performed well, clinching podium finishes and enhancing their international standing. He emphasized that the championship not only serves as a thrilling sporting spectacle but also as an opportunity to showcase Oman’s tourism potential on a global stage.
OAA remains hopeful for continued support, aiming to elevate Oman’s presence on the global motorsports stage, reflecting the nation’s vibrant culture and warm hospitality.
