Oman Participates in 151st Inter-Parliamentary Union General Assembly in Geneva

Geneva, The Gulf Observer: The State Council of the Sultanate of Oman is taking part in the 151st General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and its related committee meetings being held in Geneva, Switzerland, with sessions continuing through 23 October.
The Council’s participation in this prominent global parliamentary gathering, which brings together delegations from across the world, underscores Oman’s steadfast commitment to strengthening its presence in international parliamentary forums and fostering the exchange of legislative and institutional expertise.
Within the framework of the Assembly, State Council members Maha Sulaiman Al Lamki and Eng. Nahla Abdulwahab Al Hamdi took part in the Women Parliamentarians Forum (2025). The forum focused on key issues concerning women’s empowerment in parliamentary work and enhancing their participation in decision-making processes. Discussions centred on advancing women’s parliamentary leadership, assessing progress toward gender equality in parliamentary operations, and integrating gender perspectives into the General Assembly’s agenda.
During a dialogue session titled “Transformational Leadership – Building a More Equitable World,” Maha Al Lamki highlighted the significant achievements of Omani women, emphasizing that Oman’s future vision is founded on the principle of full partnership between men and women in societal development and nation-building. She noted that transformational leadership involves listening, empowering, and building bridges between individuals and communities. Al Lamki further underlined that women’s empowerment extends beyond representation in decision-making positions, encompassing active participation in economic, scientific, and social spheres to create a more inclusive and just future.
In parallel proceedings, Khalid Ahmed Al Saadi, Secretary-General of the State Council, participated in meetings of the Association of Secretaries General of Parliaments. The discussions addressed organizational and technical aspects of parliamentary development, including innovative practices and contingency planning to sustain parliamentary operations during potential disruptions, drawing on lessons from recent global crises.
Al Saadi emphasized the importance of sharing knowledge among parliamentary secretariats and adopting digital and innovative solutions to enhance administrative and technical efficiency within parliamentary institutions.
